Class News:
Technology/Computer Center We
enjoyed our holiday, but we are excited about having a very productive
second half of the year. First graders used Microsoft Word to write a
paragraph about what they did during the Christmas holidays. Second
graders used Spelling City to find a list of their spelling words, and
then used Sentence Writing Practice to make sentences for their words.
Third grade used math facts and aplusmath.com to practice their multiplication skills. Fourth graders were assigned
the different northeastern states to research and fill out a summary
sheet. Fifth graders used Inspiration and Google Draw to organize
events on the Civil War to present to the class. Then, they took their
information and made a word cloud using Wordle.net. Seventh and eighth
grade students researched Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. Sixth, seventh,
and eighth graders used their research findings to make a Prezi
presentation. Prezi is a striking alternative to PowerPoint.
In
honor of Martin Luther King Day, first and second graders viewed an
online slide show of his life and used Tux Paint to draw pictures of the
importance of Dr. King’s life. Third and fourth graders took a Cyber
Hunt to gather information about Dr. King. Fifth through eighth grade
listened to Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech and discussed what
would it be like if Martin Luther King lived today.

5th Grade
The 5th grade class has been busily ringing in the New Year. During
our first week back to school we visited the Chalmette Battlefield to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans. Over 150 living history experts were present in the dress of the time. There were British soldiers, American soldiers, Native Americans, privateers, and laypeople. The students enjoyed talking and interacting with the characters. They especially enjoyed the musket and cannon firing demonstrations. The students have also been busy working in the community garden. They harvested rosemary, tended to their crop of carrots, and planted cabbage, broccoli, and lettuce. The students are eagerly awaiting January 27th when they will perform their student written major play set in the Audubon Zoo. Mr. Sedgwick

Back in late October, the 6th grade class planted red lettuce from seed. On Friday, we harvested and had a salad party. Each person brought in a different topping, so we ended up sharing a Stone Soup-like feast during advisory period, after lunch. returned your sign, please bring to Mrs. Renee in the front office at
your earliest convenience. We plan on using these signs again next

Our campus continues to be filled with prospective students visiting in Pre-Kindergarten to 8th Grade and individual tours on a daily basis. Please help us to welcome our visitors and make them feel at home. The admissions process will also involve observations at many of the local nursery schools as we observe applicants. Please continue to help us to spread the word to parents looking for a school for their children by telling them about St. Andrew’s and encourage them to call for a tour. Stay Up-to Date....
