Religious Life at St. Andrew's Episcopal School
Consistent with the School's philosophy and mission statements, St.
Andrew's strives to foster a desire for learning in a Christian
environment where faith, reason and diversity are valued. As stated in
our Philosophy, this environment should be firm but flexible enough to
allow for growth in responsibility, in individual self-expression, and
in creative ability.

The religious life at St. Andrew's is based on the following beliefs:
o We believe that we are called to radical hospitality and inclusiveness. We see God as the author of diversity and our differences as gifts designed to enrich and enhance our lives.
o We believe that we are created in the image of God who is loving, compassionate, forgiving and joyful. We find we are most at home with ourselves when our thoughts and actions reflect our God-given, basic nature.
o We believe that as we become aware of God's love for us, we will experience a feeling of fullness to overflowing. It is that feeling of fullness that leads to a longing to love and bless others. In this way, we see service as an integral part of a life of faith and as a natural response to God's transforming love. God's love and our response to that love produce great joy and serene peace.
o We believe it is vital to uphold the basic principles of the Baptismal Covenant and to be models of love and grace by respecting the dignity of every human being, serving God in all persons and striving for justice and peace among all people.
While such core values are expressed and reinforced in every class, this aspect of St. Andrew's education is further enhanced in worship services and religion classes. All students participate in worship services twice a week and students in first through eighth grades attend religion classes once a week. Religion classes are conducted in an open and inclusive manner with an emphasis on promoting respect and understanding of all faith traditions.
